The Lost Temple of Ynaax uul Rahaan
//A Text Adventure//
//By Jesse Lee Keeter//
Part One
//*Content Warning: Alcohol, violence, blood, guns.//You're jarred awake, uncertain, at first, where you are.
The smell of ozone...
The thrum of propeller...
The plane!
Of course!
You'd set off that morning. You and Doc.
You've been in the air for over an hour. Must've dozed off.
Glance out the window
Buckle your seatbeltYou lift the shade, flinching as white light spills in.
Far below, there is only a vast expanse of green.
That cursed jungle stretches as far as the eye can see.
That jungle...
You swore you'd never come back here.
And just like that, the plane bucks.
Turbulence.
Buckle your seatbeltIt's a small plane. A couple seats, most empty.
You know the pilot. She's a smuggler. Rare that she takes on passnengers. Today it's only you and Doc.
Take a look at the Doc
Check your suppliesWhen you reach for the buckle, your hand brushes past the half empty bottle of gin in your lap. That explains the headache.
Take a drink
Alt Glance out the windowHe's the one that got you into all this, crazy old bastard. Must be getting on fifty now, and still he chases these wild geese. He's balding, what hair is left is stark white and untamed. He's wearing that old safari uniform, long since broken in. And he's asleep. Even with all this turbulence, the old man can sleep through anything.
Wake him up
Let him sleep"Doc," you shout. "You old lazy bastard, wake up!"
"Who? What?" he's startled awake.
"Easy now, old timer. It's just me, your prodigy."
"Wake up and have a drink with me, you geezer!"You sit there, silently, watching the old man snooze. There's a peace about him. A calm you envy.
Sleep shows you no such mercy.
Every night is the same.
Every night you dream.
The jungle.
You dream of the jungle.
As your thoughts turn to your nightmares, your enjoyment of the old man's slumber is lost.
Wake him upYour trusty pack, weather worn and ripe with the stench of many an adventure. It's right where you left it, underneath your seat.
Open the BagA change of clothes. Your revolver. A few spare rounds. And most importantly, the map.
Stow the gin
Examine the Revolver
Examine the mapWouldn't want to forget this. You stow the bottle in your bag.
Examine the Revolver
Examine the mapThis Revolver has gotten you out of more than a few jams. It was a gift, from your mother, when you set off to follow in her footsteps, to find your fame and fortune in the wildlands.
It's got a nice weight to it. It's reliable. And it fits in your hand like it grew there.
Do a trick
Check the weapon
Examine the mapThat's better. Right as rain.
Have another
Alt Glance out the windowYou wipe the gin off your lips, savoring the burn. Okay, that'll do.
Now it's time to get your head on straight.
Alt Glance out the windowDoc had been cagey about how exactly he'd come across it. Said there wasn't time to discuss it, before shoving it into your hands and begging you to keep it safe until morning. Then he'd left.
You unroll the ancient scroll now. It's in pretty bad shape, damn near unreadable. But the important parts are all there. You trace your finger over path you'll be skipping thanks in no small part to the plane and the smuggler who agreed to fly you in. If Doc is as good as he says he is, you'll be coming down pretty close to the X on this map.
A temple, it's name unreadable, smudged by the many hands who'd held this map before you.
Where exactly were you headed?
Examine the Revolver
Put away the bagLike it's second nature, you twirl the revolver back, forwards, then side ways. You switch grips. Switch hands. Toss it into the air and snatch it out of the air at the last second. Damn you're good.
Check the weapon
Fire off a round
Stow the weaponYou flip open the cylinder. Six shots, all in. With a flick of the wrist, you snap it closed.
Do a trick
Stow the weapon
Fire off a roundYou tuck the weapon back into your bag.
Examine the map
Put away the bagBANG!
What are you crazy!?
You just fired off a revolver inside an airplane!
The round pierces the bulkhead and oxygen whistles out of the cabin.
Now Doc is awake. "What in the hell is the matter with you," he shouts.
"I was just doing a trick."
"It was an accident! I'm sorry!"
Hide the revolver behind your back and try to look innocent.
Do another trick
Shoot Doc"You fool," he shouts. "You damn fool."
But it's getting hard to hear him.
This old plane can't hold on. The hole in the bulkhead is getting bigger. The Doc's papers are flying all over the place caught up in the vacuum. And then you feel it, the plane is losing altitude.
Look out the window
Shoot Doc"An accident," he screams. "You're a damn fool is what you are!"
But it's getting hard to hear him.
This old plane can't hold on. The hole in the bulkhead is getting bigger. Doc's papers are flying all over the place, flung about by the vacuum. And then you feel it, the plane is losing altitude.
Look out the window
Shoot DocA tricky maneuver, because you're strapped in, but you manage to get the revolver behind your back.
Doc looks at you in disbelief.
"Wasn't that you? Your gun?"
Cop to it
Shake your head noYou twirl the gun around, backwards, forewards, side to side. It's pretty sick. You change grips, change hands, and toss the gun into the air again, snatching it just before it hits the ground.
When you look to Doc to see what he thinks, you find him staring at you, dumbfounded.
"You're no fool," he says. "You're a lunatic! A psychopath!"
"I was just doing a trick."
"It was an accident! I'm sorry!"
Hide the revolver behind your back and try to look innocent.
Shoot DocIn a fit of rage you, level the revolver at Doc and pull the trigger.
BANG!
Your aim is true.
Doc clutches his chest, blood spreading through the fabric of his safari uniform.
"Why," he gasps. "Why would you..." but he's gone.
Now you're alone in the cabin.
Alt Look out the window
Take a moment to contemplate your actionsYou have to rearrange some of the items to get your bag closed all the way. Before you can zip it up, you can't help but notice the corner of an envelope, tucked between your briefs and the gun.
That letter.
Damn that letter.
Examine the letterNo address. No postage. Unneccessary. They left it on the nightstand so you'd find it when you woke up this morning.
Damn.
You'd (the gin) done a pretty good job keeping them off your mind...until now that is.
Read the LetterYou carefully fold the letter back into the envelope and tuck it into your bag.
Not now.
You have a job to do. A discovery waiting to be made.
The world and all its problems will be waiting for you when you get back from the jungle.
For now, it's just you and Doc, and this damned jungle.
Speaking of Doc...
Alt Take a look at the DocYou crumble the letter into your fist. It seems rage has beat out sorrow. You look around for something to punch.
No.
Not now.
You have a job to do. A discovery waiting to be made.
No point in wasting the energy on this now. This anger will be waiting for you when you return.
The world and all its problems will still be there when you get back from the jungle.
For now, it's just you and Doc, and this damned jungle.
Speaking of Doc...
Alt Take a look at the DocYou open the envelope with trembling fingers. A fresh wave of sorrow and rage twisting up your throat. You can barely unfold the paper without ripping it in half.
It reads:
//Seeing as this is a one way conversation, I suppose it's on me to end it. Right? I know you're doing important work out there, real work, all alone in the dark corners of that jungle. That jungle you said you were through with. That jungle you swore you'd never return to. That jungle that keeps you up at night. But here you are, ready to crawl right back to it.
But what about me? Us? You? The real You.
The You who thinks those thoughts right before you fall asleep at night, the thoughts that nobody owns, that nobody directs, controls, or patents. The useless thoughts. The ones that make You you. I miss that You.
But if I'm being honest, I don't really miss you. Not any more.
If you get back, and yes, despite what my grief counselor and your boss caution against, I did say "If" because I can no longer live in a world of "when"
If, If, If,
If you get back, maybe, MAYBE, look me up. But I warn you, things will be different or they wont be anything at all. That's gospel.
-Jax//
Shed a tear
Stow the letter
Crumple up the letterYeah. It hurts.
It hurts bad.
Feel it.
Live it.
Oh, damn.
You're getting the letter all wet. You're crying pretty hard now.
Stow the letter
Crumple up the letter
Blow your nose on the letterOh well. You blow your nose in the letter. Wipe your eyes and mouth. Feel better?
Stow the letter
Crumple up the letterYup, the engine is smoking. The bullet must have clipped it upon its exit. This plane is going down.
Use the emergency exit
Look for a parachute
Ask Doc for helpThe plane is falling fast. It takes all of your strength just to climb out of your seat. You claw your way to the emergency exit and grab hold of the lever.
With a mighty yank, you unlock the door–
The door is ripped off it's hinges, pulling you out of the plane with it.
Freefall
Surf the doorYou see them, hanging beside the door.
You fight your way across the cabin, unsure each time you grab hold of a seat whether you'll be able to pull yourself to the next.
But you make it.
Somehow you make it.
Strap into a parachute
Use the emergency exit "What do we do," you ask.
"This plane wont last much longer," Doc says. "We'll have to jump."
"You're crazy!"
"Sounds good to me""Fine, it was me. I was doing a sweet trick with my revolver and I was inspired to crack one off. What of it?"
"You fool," Doc shouts. "You damn fool!"
But it's getting hard to hear him.
This old plane can't hold on. The hole in the bulkhead is getting bigger. The Doc's papers are flying all over the place caught up in the vacuum. And then you feel it, the plane is losing altitude.
Look out the window
Shoot DocYou shake your head, feigning innocence. All the while the revolver is digging into your back.
"I could have sworn I saw you..." He looks confused. "Well, never mind. It isn't the cause that worries me so much as the solution."
But it's getting hard to hear him.
This old plane can't hold on. The hole in the bulkhead is getting bigger. The Doc's papers are flying all over the place caught up in the vacuum. And then you feel it, the plane is losing altitude.
Look out the window
Shoot DocIt all happened so fast.
You were sitting there, having a good time, twirling the gun around on your finger. Now here you are. You've murdered a man in cold blood.
Doc.
What were you thinking?
Was it an accident?
Was it?
It was just an impulse. An idea that crossed your mind.
Why act on it at all?
Simply because it was there? Because it was an option?
It was almost as if someone else had pulled the trigger for you. Almost as if you had no choice in the matter at all. As though it was all laid out for you in advance and you were just some pawn being carried around the game board in a predetermined set of moves.
No.
That was crazy talk.
Doc had it coming. And now you wouldn't have to split the treasure with anybody.
So long as the plane stayed in the air, you'd be fine.
As if waiting for it's cue, the engine starts to cut out.
A fitting end, you suppose, for a dirty rotten scoundrel like you.
Close your eyes and wait for your life to flash before them
Remember the ginWith your eyes closed, the wind rushing through past your head, you wait.
You wait for peace.
For understanding.
For acceptance or forgiveness.
You wait for the moments of your life which defined you, which led you here, but nothing comes.
Where are the people? Where are the faces of your friends?
No.
Family?
No.
Lovers?
Ha!
Your memories will not save you.
You've killed a man.
And this is what, your punishment?
Now you see a face.
It's doc.
Doc, startled, unsure of what was happening. Of why on god's green earth you'd fire a round off in a plane.
"You fool," he'd cried at the end. "You damn fool!"
Now you see him, clutching his chest, blood soaking his safari suit.
You can't take it any more.
You open your eyes.
The last thing you see, before the pain, and the darkness, and the nothing, is Doc.
Sitting there across from you.
Blood leaking out his lips.
But is that...?
It couldn't be.
Is Doc smiling?
And then the plane crashes into the earth.
Death by Plane crash The gin! Of course!
You dig the bottle out of your bag.
"A toast," you say to no one but the dead, "to us at the end of it all!'
You take a long pull off the bottle and feel it burn all the way down.
Well, this is one way to go out.
As the plane falls out of the sky, you press your forehead to the window, staring, staring at the jungle.
That cursed jungle.
You said you'd never return.
You lied.
Death by Plane crashGAME OVER
//You died...//
Examine the RevolverWell, shoot. That didn't work, now did it?
There isn't much you can do now.
At first you're afraid. You scream. You close your eyes. But it's no use. You're still plummeting towards the earth.
So you open your eyes.
Below you, getting closer fast, that jungle.
That cursed jungle.
You said you'd never return.
You lied.
Death by gravityIt isn't easy, but you manage to get the door underneath you. With your last ounce of strength you stand up on the door.
You did it.
"Hang ten, my dudes," you yell into the wind.
In style, you plummet towards the earth. Right before you crash into the trees, you try to do a kick flip.
There is pain.
The sound of tree branches exploding.
And darkness.
Then nothing at all.
Death by gravityGAME OVER
//You died...//
Open the Bag"Suit yourself," Doc says. He's out of his seat and at the emergency exit in an instant. "Parachutes enough for the both of us, if you change your mind." He straps in to one of the chutes. "I'd grab ahold of something if I were you."
When he wrenches open the emergency exit it gets ripped off it's hinges. The plane lurches in response.
Doc doesn't wait around to see what you decide. He flings himself out of the plane and is gone, leaving you alone in the cabin.
Follow Doc's lead
Close your eyes and wait for the inevitable"Follow me," Doc says. He's out of his seat and at the emergency exit in an instant. "There's parachutes enough for the both of us." He straps in to one of the chutes.
You do the same.
"I'd grab ahold of something if I were you," he says.
When he wrenches open the emergency exit it gets ripped off it's hinges. The plane lurches in response.
Doc doesn't wait around. He flings himself out of the plane and is gone, leaving you alone in the cabin.
Follow Doc's lead
Close your eyes and wait for the inevitableTime to go get one of those parachutes.
The moment you unbuckle your seatbelt you're ripped from the seat. You hit a few chairs on your way over, then you're outside the plane.
Falling...
Falling...
Falling...
There isn't much you can do now.
At first you're afraid. You scream. You close your eyes. But it's no use. You're still plummeting towards the earth.
So you open your eyes.
Below you, getting closer fast, that jungle.
That cursed jungle.
You said you'd never return.
You lied.
Death by gravityIt all happened so fast.
You were sitting there, having a good time, twirling the gun around on your finger. Now here you are. At the end.
It was just one of those decisions that seem so silly, so simple, but end up defining you.
As if waiting for it's cue, the engine cuts out.
You open your eyes in time to see the jungle one last time. It is upon you
There is pain.
The sound of trees exploding.
And darkness.
Then nothing at all.
Death by Plane crash Part One
Chasing Rumors
BeginIt takes him a moment to wipe the crust from his eyes, but when he does, there's mischief there. "Prodigy indeed," he laughs. "Shall we get to work?"
Smile back, and say, "Then let's get to it."
"First, a toast!" Raise the bottle. It takes him a moment to wipe the crust from his eyes, but when he does, there's mischief there. "Forget the gin," he waves it away. "There's work to be done."
Toast him, regardless
Smile back, and say, "Then let's get to it."You raise the bottle of gin, "To you, Doc, and all the trouble I let you walk me right into."
You toss back the shot.
Toast him again
Stow the bottle
Smash the bottle!"We haven't far yet to travel," he says, looking out the window.
"Tell me, Doc, how is it you plan to land a plane in the middle of that damed jungle?"
In response, Doc gives you a mischievous grin. "Who said anything about landing?"
Doc laughs
Doc laughsYou raise the bottle, another toast on the tip of your tongue–
But Doc interrupts you, "Best be careful, we'll need our wits about us."
Stow the bottle
Toast him anyway! You cram to bottle back into your bag.
Smile back, and say, "Then let's get to it.""Huzzah," you roar, flinging the bottle against the bulkhead. It shatters, sending glass everywhere.
"Get ahold of yourself," Doc shouts, all humor gone from his eyes. "What are you, some kind of animal?"
Leave the mess
Clean up the glass"To you, Doc, and all your wisdom," and you toss back another.
Toast him again!
Stow the bottle
Smash the bottle! You raise the bottle once more, your head swimming, ready to sing his praises, your oldest friend, your confidant–
"Enough," he says. The humor is gone from his eyes.
Apologize
Stow the bottle
Smash the bottle!"You're right," you say, rather sheepishly. "You're always right."
Stow the bottleEmbarrassed, you try to play it off. "Just excited is all," you say, finding it hard to look your mentor in the eye. You're feeling a bit out of sorts.
Doc, much to his credit, recognizes the circumstance of your attendance here on this mission, the oathe you broke when you agreed to return to the jungle.
Mercifully, he scolds you no further."
Smile back, and say, "Then let's get to it."
Smile back, and say, "Then let's get to it."You start to unbuckle your seatbelt, but Doc stops you.
"Leave it," he says. "They'll clean it up when we've gone."
"Of course," you say, finding it hard to look your mentor in the eye. You're feeling a bit out of sorts.
Doc, much to his credit, recognizes the circumstance of your attendance here on this mission, the oathe you broke when you agreed to return to the jungle.
Mercifully, he scolds you no further."
Smile back, and say, "Then let's get to it."
Smile back, and say, "Then let's get to it."Doc laughs, a wild look in his eye. "I never claimed this an easy endeavor."
We jump
We jump"We jump," Doc says.
You look again out the window to see the jungle brooding below.
Doc laughs louder
Doc laughs louderDoc laughs again. This time madness creeps into his tone.
Laugh with him
"Good lord, you really are crazy, aren't you?"You laugh, basking in the madness!
This is what you signed up for. This is why you returned to the jungle.
You were a fool for thinking you could stave off a return.
"Good lord, you really are crazy, aren't you?"Doc dries the mirth from his eyes. "Wonderful, simply wonderful."
You feel the plane decelerate.
"We haven't much time," Doc says. "We left in such a hurry, and now here we are, on the precipice of our endeavor."
"I apologize," you say. "I was in quite a state when you arrived this morning. Jax left me, you see...again..."
"When they weren't there this morning, I figured you'd had a disagreement."
"You know Jax..." you say.
"When Jax heard I'd be returning, when I told them you'd gotten in touch, asked me to accompany you on this journey..." you say."That I do," he says. "That I do."
An uncomfortable silence hangs in the air.
"Well then," you clear your throat. "Suppose we get on with it then."
"Of course," he doesn't seem to know where to begin.
Plan intro
Plan intro"They worry about you," he says. "You've a million reasons never to return to this wretched jungle. A million more to run far away."
"True," you say. But that mischief has returned to Doc's eye.
"You've one reason, though, one very good reason, to stay..."
Plan intro
Plan intro"Right," Doc say, gesturing to the papers piled on his lap. "The Plan."
When he'd contacted you late last night, he'd been in a wild state. He'd said he'd finally found what he'd been looking for. A treasure far more valuable than any you'd gone after in the past. Then he'd handed you the map, begged you keep it safe while he tied up some loose ends.
He'd left in a hurry after that.
"That map," he says, as though reading your thoughts. "That map is only one piece of the puzzle."
Go on 1"I'm not the first to come across it," he says. "Nor will //we// be the first to follow it into the jungle."
"Where does it lead?"
"Where did you find the map?"He shuffles his papers, thinking, perhaps, how much he'll choose to indulge.
"Out with it, old man. We haven't the time for secrets.""Oh, I have my ways," he says, and there's that mischevious grin again.
"You stole it."
"We've come this far," you say. "No point in keeping secrets now."
"Where does it lead?""Nothing so base as that," he assures you. "I know a fellow, who knows a fellow that's all. No query a bit of coin won't answer..."
"I see," you say. "So there's no one who will mind it missing?"
"well...I wouldn't go so far as to say that. Who am I to know how this fellow obtained it, or the fellow he knows. I try not to bother myself with such matters."
"Where does it lead?""Of course," he slaughs. "Old habits and all that..."
He shuffles his papers, thinking, perhaps, how much he'll choose to indulge.
"Out with it, old man. We haven't the time for secrets.""You're right," he says. "Of course."
He sets his papers on the seat next to him.
"Perhaps you've noticed my displeasure in our recent endeavors?"
The truth
The truth"Too true," he says, and that very disappointment passes over him now, but it's fleeting, for his excitement cannot be kept at bay for long. "I've contacts throughout the colonies, as you know, fellows who spend their days sifting through the secrets of those who came before. When you spend enough time, as I have, chasing down rumors, it's inevitable, really, that you you come to hear the name Ynaax uul Rahaan..."
When Doc speaks this name, fear washes over you."You know this name," he asks. But he isn't afraid.
"Doc, you wouldn't..."
"We shall."
The truth continued
The truth continued"This is no fable, I assure you."
The Truth cont. 2
The Truth cont. 2"When have I ever steered you wrong?"
The truth cont. 3
The truth cont. 3
The truth cont. 3
Gun drawn"I'd be lying if I said I hadn't gotten us into a spot of trouble here and there, but such is the nature of this life. You know that better than most. Do you not trust me?"
"I find it hard to believe any explanation worthy," you say. "But we've come this far. Say your piece."
Gun drawn"Let's just calm down now," Doc says. "No need to get excited."
Gun fight
Hesitate"I did not happen upon this map by accident. Research led me here." He scoops up his stack of papers once more. "I have combed the archives for any trace, any mention of Ynaax uul Rahaan, for the Lady of Secrets, and her lost temple. I have done the work. I have chased down every lead. Believe me when I say this temple exists."
You say nothing. You know better than to interrupt Doc when he gets this look in his eye. "This fellow who provided me the map," he says. "he has been to the temple. Has seen it with his very own eyes."
"And you believe him?""I must!" Again Doc brandishes his research. "Everything he says, every word, it all checks out. And to know this man, the horror he carries with him..." Doc whispers now, "I have seen the truth in the eyes."
I only wish you'd told me before we left, given me a chance to decide for myself..."
Gun drawn"There wasn't time," Doc says.
"There was!"
"No," he says. "If anyone found out we had the map..."
"So it was stolen?"
"I should have guessed, the state you were in last night. You've put a target on my back now too!""Perhaps," he says. "Though not by me. I promise you I obtained the map by honest means."
"Honest," you laugh.
"Regardless," he says, "no one knows I came to see you last night. They've no idea you've seen the map."
"How can you be sure?"
"Jax," you whisper. "They're still in town. They have no idea!"
Map leads - post truth"No one knows I came to see you last night" he says. "They've no idea you've seen the map!"
"How can you be sure?"
And then it dawns on you.
"Jax," you whisper. "They're still in town. They have no idea!""Believe me when I say this," he assures you. "I was very careful."
Assurance transition
Gun drawnThe plane continues it's descent. Outside the window the jungle is much closer. You can feel it now, calling to you.
"Let us get on with it, then," Doc says. You're not surpirsed to hear him laugh.
Map leads - post truthDoc pulls his pistol.
"I've come too far to stop now," he says, the weapon pointed at your chest.
Lower your weapon.
Keep your revolver trained on him. "Drop it, Doc."
Alt Gun fight"The map will take us as far as the temple. My research will aide us once we're inside. Though there's sure to be any number of traps to way lay those who dare enter."

Not like the others"There's a good Lad," Doc says. He too lowers his weapon.
Alt Truth"Listen to me, you fool.," he says. "I've found it. I've finally found it. I won't let you take this away!"
"Convince me," you say. "Make me believe."
Lower your weapon.
Alt Gun fightThe revolver erupts in your hand.
The bullet tears through his chest.
But Doc fires at the same time.
His shot hits you like a freight train, knocking the wind out of you.
Your ears ring.
At first you feel nothing. Only the shock of what just happened.
Then all you know is pain.
You clutch your gut, feel the warmth of blood pooling in your lap.
Gun fight 2
Gun fight 2Doc laughs, blood draining from his mouth. His safari uniform is soaked with it.
He stares you down, gun still in hand.
Fire again
Laugh with him as the madness descends upon you. This one does him in. He collapses back into his chair, his pistol clattering to the floor.
Darkness comes upon.
As you fade away, a thought flutters by, a name:
Ynaax uul Rahaan...
Was Doc right, had he found the lost temple?
Now you'll never know the truth...
Killed by Doc\Game Over "You fool," he says. "I found it. I finally found it. If only you'd let me explain..."
And with that, the light fades from his eyes.
Darkness comes upon.

Lower your weapon.
Alt Gun fight"I did not happen upon this map by accident. Research led me here." He scoops up his stack of papers once more. "I've combed the archives for any trace, any mention of Ynaax uul Rahaan, for the Lady of Secrets, and her lost temple. I've done the work. I've chased down every lead. Believe me when I say //this temple exists//."
Alt truth 2"This fellow who provided me the map," he says. "He has been to the temple. Has seen it with his very own eyes."

"How can you be sure?"

Alt gun drawn"Here we are again," Doc says, and pulls the trigger.
The gun is deafening in such small space.

To think, only moments ago, you were certain you knew the extent of pain.
Now white light rips through your body, unmaking your thoughts.
Doc laughs, blood draining from his mouth. His safari uniform is soaked with it.
He stares you down, gun still in hand.

Game Over"Of course," he laughs. "But do not be fooled, we face our greatest challenge yet."
Before he can say more, however, a high pitched noise assaults you. A sound like nothing you've ever heard.
You clamp your hands over your ears in agony, but it does no good.
You look to Doc. He too is writhing in pain.
Try to shout over the noise, "What the hell is that?"
You're paralyzed by the noise, there's nothing you can do!"I've no bloody idea!"
The plane rattles now, its descent quickened.
Alt Look out the window
Unbuckle your seat beltYou simply writhe in pain, straining against your seat belt.
Doc is shouting to you, but you can't make out what he's saying.
Try to fight it
Surrender to itYou free yourself from the restraint and try to find your feet.
The plane shudders violently.
Doc, too, unbuckles his seat belt and joins you in the aisle. "What do we do," he shouts, color draining from his face. The noise will not relent, making it hard to think. But there's something different about it now.
Head for the cockpit
Try to focus on the noiseYou see the engine is coughing black smoke.
Unbuckle your seat beltIt takes every ounce of strength you have, but you manage to fight your way to the cockpit.
Try the doorYou let go, offering yourself up to the noise.
And then you hear it.
A voice.
Or is it many?
Chanting.
Yes. You can hear it clearly now.
Chanting.
In a language you've never heard.
One phrase, repeated, stands out:
//Ynaax uul Rahaan. Ynaax uul Rahaan. Ynaax uul Rahaan!//
"This can't be happening," you shout.
When you look to Doc, he's smiling through the pain.
He can hear it too.
"I knew it," now he's jumpinmg with joy. "I told you it was real! Didn't I tell you!"
Head for the cockpitIt's locked.
Bang on the door and yell for the pilot
Kick in the doorNo answer. You pound the door with your fists, scream at the top of your lungs, but it's no use.
The chanting does not cease. If anything it only grows louder.
//Ynaax uul Rahaan! Ynaax uul Rahaan! Ynaax uul Rahaan!//
Kick in the doorWith Doc's help you pummel the door, tearing it free.
All you see are warning lights.
Alarms blare.
Through the window, trees rush up at you.
You've only a second to spare.
Enter the cockpitEmpty...
The cockpit is empty.
How is that possible?
You know for a fact the pilot was here. You spoke to her before the trip. You saw her shut herself in.
There's now way she could have slipped out without you noticing.
But you'd fallen asleep, hadn't you?
Could she somehow have managed to slip out while you slept, used one of the parachutes...
Impossible!
The flight had been smooth. You can't believe she could have left this aircraft without waking you.
You look to Doc.
He's as bewildered as you.
You stand there, searching in vain for the solution.
Impossible.
How could the pilot just disappear?
//Ynaax uul Rahaan! Ynaax uul Rahaan! Ynaax uul Rahaan!//
You're out of time.
Jump into the pilot's chairYou dive behind the controls. Doc takes the co-pilot's seat.
You've never flown a plane. Never even been inside a cockpit.
Lights flash. Alarms blare.
You're not even sure where to begin.
Look to Doc for guidance
Start hitting buttons
Try the yokeYou wrench up on the steering column.
It won't budge, you're falling too fast.
The last thing you see, before the plane crashes into the earth, are the trees.
The jungle.
The cursed jungle.
//Ynaax uul Rahaan! Ynaax uul Rahaan! Ynaax uul Rahaan!//
You've returned at last...
End of Part OneYou smash every button, flip every swithch.
It's no use.
You're going to crash.
You've just enough time for one last attempt.
Try the yokeHe only stares back at you, terrified.
Tears stream down his face.
Start hitting buttons
Try the yokeDo you survive the crash?
What happens to Doc?
Will you discover the secret of Ynaax uul Rahaan?
//dramatic musical stinger!!//
To be continuedThanks for playing!
I hope you've enjoyed the adventure so far.
Title PageFar below, there is only that vast expanse of green.
That cursed jungle stretches as far as the eye can see.
That jungle...
You swore you'd never come back here.
Reaquaint yourself with the cabinHe's the one that got you into all this, crazy old bastard. Must be getting on fifty now, and still he chases these wild geese. He's balding, what hair is left is stark white and untamed. He's wearing that old safari uniform, long since broken in. And he's asleep. Even with all this turbulence, the old man can sleep through anything.
Check your suppliesYup, the engine is smoking. The bullet must have clipped it upon its exit. This plane is going down.
Use the emergency exit
Look for a parachute
Take a moment to contemplate your actions You've no problem strapping in.
Time to go.
Alt Open the emergency exitYou grab hold of the lever and with a mighty yank, unlock the door–

early chuteWell, shoot.
Pull your chute
Do a kickflip
Ride that sucker to the endReflexively, you pull chute as soon as you're free of the plane.
There is a moment when you're jerked out of freefall and relief washes over you.
But something isn't right.
You're jerked back again, this time twisting around so you can see the problem.
Your chute got sucked up into the engine, and now it's on fire.
This plane is going down and you're tethered to it.
Cut the straps
Accept your fateYou're jerked out of freefall when your chute opens.
Calm washes over you as you float down toward the jungle.
That cursed jungle
You swore you'd never return.
You lied.
But wait–
What's that sound?Yeah!
You do a kickflip! And you even manage to get the door underneath you again.
Pull your chute
Do another kick flip
Ride that sucker to the end You stand tall atop your improvised wind board, slicing through the air like the dare devil you are.
And yeah, it looks epic!
It doesn't take long before the jungle is there to greet you.
There is pain.
The sound of tree branches exploding.
And darkness.
Then nothing at all.

But no! You find it!
You make quick work of the straps, cutting the last one away. And you–
Alt freefall 3Yeah, this is bad. But what can you do?

Then nothing at all.
Death by gravityThere's no use. Every ounce of resistance only causes you more pain.
The muscles in your face seize and you're pretty sure you can feel the bloodvessels rupturing in your eyes.
Doc shouts something again. You focus on his words.
"Let go," he screams, breaking through the wall of sound, and finally connecting with you. "Just give in!"
Surrender to it
Keep fighting
You let go as the strange noise floods your senses, overwhelming them.
But the pressure ceases. You are no longer paralyzed by the sonic torment.
It's still present, yes, but now that you've given in, you are free to act.
Try to shout over the noise, "What the hell is that?"You will not give in to this torment.
Seizure spreads and the muscles in your jaw, then throat, then chest, lock up. You cannot move.
You're a statue, frozen by pain.
But you will not give up.
You're pretty sure your eyes and ears and nose and mouth are bleeding now.
The pressure in your head is unbearable.
Just before your skull implodes, you detect an undercurrent to this wretched noise.
In a language you've never heard, a chanting.
A name.
Repeated over and over again...
//Ynaax uul Rahaan. Ynaax uul Rahaan. Ynaax uul Rahaan!//
